Is a Brazilian professional skateboarder, who won a silver medal in women’s street skateboarding at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Rayssa Leal was born and lived in Imperatriz, Brazil. She began skateboarding at the age of six when a family friend gifted her with her first skateboard on her 6th birthday.
Rayssa Leal first gained world attention at the age of seven on a video of her skating in a bright blue fairy dress and doing a heelflip down a set of stairs. Leal’s mother captured a video and sent it to Tony Hawk. The next day, the American reposted on Twitter and commented: “I don’t know anything about it, but it’s amazing: a fairytale-style heelflip in Brazil ”. At that time, he always made a post with the best maneuver of the day.Rayssa Leal was dubbed “The Little Fairy of Skateboarding”
Rayssa Leal placed third in the 2019 Street League Skateboarding Championship in London with a score of 26.0, surpassing Alexis Sablone, Letícia Bufoni, and other skaters. She secured first place in the Street League Skateboarding Championship in Los Angeles in July 2019, outshining Pamela Rosa and Alana Smith. Rayssa also achieved a fourth-place win in her debut at the 2019 X Games.
At 13, She made history as the youngest Brazilian to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She earned a bronze in skateboarding qualifiers and a silver in the final. Her success catapulted her to stardom, gaining 5.8 million Instagram followers and winning The Visa Awards with a $50,000 charity donation.
Leal won the 2021 SLS season opener in Utah, USA, with the highest score in women’s SLS history. She surpassed Funa Nakayama with an 8.5 rating, achieving a 360º flip and handrail maneuver, a first for women in official competition.
In November 2022, she emerged victorious at the 2022 SLS Super Crown held in Rio de Janeiro. she also made history by winning her maiden X Games gold medal.
In 2023, Rayssa Leal secured sponsorships from several companies, including April Skateboards, Nike SB, Eight Eyes, Stronger Trucks, Rockstar Bearings, Ecoprint, and Colégio Cebama.
