Welcome to the RICS website section for South Korea.
South Korea is located at the southern half of Korean Peninsula which is in between Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. Its capital city is Seoul, the second largest metropolitan city in the world. Its population has reached nearly 49 million (in 2009) with over 81% of its population staying at the urban area.
As early as the 1960s, when the country's five-year economic development plan was first implemented, the Korean economy has relentlessly shown signs of exponential growth. The consistent drive by the government who promotes import of raw materials and technology at the expense of consumer goods with good encouragement of savings and investments has put the country into a positive drive economy during the past decade. From 1962 to 2005, the country's GNI surged from US$2.3 billion to a staggering US$786.8 billion.
